Finding grow beds can be such a pain in the backside. They end up being expensive and just die on you after a year half the time.

So last year, desperate to have a decent growing section in our garden, I decided to make a couple of them from scrap wood.

Don’t get me wrong, the wood was warped and untreated when I was given it, but I measured twice and cut once, then treated it against water damage, then screwed it all together. Et voila! Now they work really well, and hold a lot.

I’m going to need to treat it again soon, I’m sure, but even though it’s made from scrap and took a lot of effort for something really rough, I love it! There’s something wonderful about something so imperfect, and actually making something yourself, even if objectively it’s not great.

My husband hated the process, and I was half convinced he’d make us get rid of it before long, but he’s grown to love it too!
