Yarrow

Another plant I really want to forage, as I’ve heard so much good about it! It’s meant to grow everywhere, so there’s a good chance I’ve just walked past it without knowing.

Historically, it was a popular tobacco substitute, so if society were to ever disintegrate, yarrow could be a great thing to trade.

As with many herbal remedies, it was valued for it’s ability to purify the blood and cleanse the skin.

However, the thing about yarrow that particularly interests me is its reputation for staunching bleeding. It was known to reduce blood loss from nasty wounds, and gained the nickname “soldiers’ woundwort”. The Romans even called it herba militaris.

I want to have a few jars of this to hand, ready to make a poultice in case of injury. You never know what could happen, after all.
