I bloody love blackberries. I love that they’re everywhere, I love that they’re tasty, and I love that you can make all sorts with them.
It’s clear that the berries are brilliant to snack on, to put in a crumble, or to make a jam with, but what about the rest? Well, the leaves are great for tea, the young shoots are great fried up and added to an omelette, and the flowers are used by the bees to make a particularly lovely honey.
But what about the health benefits? Well:
- They’re rich in vitamin C
- Culpepper recommended it as a cure-all, regardless of the ailment
- They’re astringent
- They’re antiseptic
- They’re anti-inflammatory
They’re just truly brilliant!
