Now you’ve got to be careful of this one. Wild garlic is bloody lovely, but it’s also very similar in appearance to lily of the valley. A poisonous plant.
In all honesty, I don’t really go with wild garlic these days, simply because I find it really easy to grow my own garlic and spring onion, so I just use those greens.
You can usually tell wild garlic based on the smell alone, but I always get paranoid that in a forest full of wild garlic I’d get discombobulated and pick the one lily of the valley, simply because the garlic smell will have flooded my senses.
But wild garlic is still pretty brilliant for you. It has:
- Vitamin C
- Beta carotene
- Protein
And generally helps with:
- Immune system boosting
- Curing infections
- Reducing cholesterol
- Reducing blood pressure
Spring’s the perfect time to collect, it’ll be gone before long. Have at it while you can!
